The folks at Toyota are ready for a new challenge—a return to the World Rally Championship. Toyota will be looking to repeat its victory from the last time it had a vehicle in the competition, when they took home the big prize in 1999. Toyota will build an all-new car for its special return, a Toyota Yaris WRC that will compete in 2017.
The new Yaris WRC will run on a 1.6-liter, direct-injection turbo four-cylinder engine, which will be called the “Global Race Engine.” They’ve already been testing the new Yaris over in Japan. While they prepare for the new WRC entry, Toyota will also remain committed to the Le Mans competition. “To run two works motorsport programmes simultaneously is of course a challenge but we believe we have the expertise and determination to succeed,” Toyota Motorsport president Yoshiaki Kinoshita said.
Here at Krause Toyota Scion, we’re excited to follow all of Toyota’s progress in these new racing competitions.
