As summer is in full spring, Cedar Beach brings you the 18th annual SportsFest, which is set for July 17-20. For those of you who have attended in the past, you know this is a huge event for Allentown. There will be somewhere around 30 different sports occurring around the area, and festival President Ray Atiyeh has stated that they’re aiming for 10,000 athletes to participate.
One of the new events that they’re thinking will bring a lot of attraction is the Find and Go Seek Playground, which is family-oriented. “We are excited to welcome families who otherwise may not have come out to the event before to come enjoy the festival, bring their children to try some great healthy activities,” said owner of the Find and Go Seek website, Stephanie Miller. “We are also thrilled to be able to provide a great space for children that are attending as spectators to have a space of their own to explore and enjoy.”
Each year, they try to add something new that will keep locals coming to the event, but Atiyeh admits it’s difficult after 18 years. “In the past, we’ve been trying to expand and improve and are trying to get bigger and better, but there are limitations for everything because the Lehigh Valley is a small valley and we run out of fields and resources,” Atiyeh said. As much as they would like to keep it all at one location, it just isn’t possible. Some sports take up a lot of space, like Field Hockey and Ultimate Frisbee.
One other change you’ll notice this year is the use of social media. Not only will this be an easy way to quickly update everyone about the winners of the different events, but it also puts some of these amateur athletes in the limelight.
Be sure to stop out to support some of the local athletes and get involved in the activities!
